I don’t always give blood but when I do, I do it at NIH.
Today I went in for my bimonthly (every two months) donation of blood. Different from most other times they nurse pointed out to me that I was donating specifically for transfusion. My response was that they could use it for whatever they wanted.
In the past I’ve never really put much thought into where my blood was going. They could use it for research or transfusions or it could get stolen by vampires. It didn’t really matter. In the grand scheme of things it was going to be helping people.
Today though, I learned that my blood wasn’t going to be helping ‘people’. My blood was going to be helping a person. There is someone specific out there who will be alive because they have my blood inside them. How much of a miracle is that?
