Back in February we took the kids on a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas. I was sick with a bad cough but I fought it. No illness was going keep me from enjoying this long planned adventure. And for the most part I was successful. The only exception was late on Pirate Night I woke up coughing and didn’t want to wake up my family… all of whom were sharing the stateroom with me.
Being Pirate Night, I snuck out of the room and went up to the top deck where I was able to drink some tea and watch Pirates of the Caribbean on the huge screen they had up there by the pool.
I want to talk about the cruise in more detail but right now the topic of discussion is the sick. Slowly, my illness got worse. Sometimes it would get better for a couple of days. Sometimes it would get worse.
At Easter vacation we went up to visit my parent’s and the illness peaked. I was downing Robitussin DM like it was fruit juice though let’s be up front here, I was about 2 doses under the max so I figured I was fine. My stomach didn’t agree and after a day in my parent’s bathroom the other symptoms eased up. I remained congested but the really bad symptoms had faded. I cancelled my appointment with the doctor.
Over the following couple of weeks the illness faded until I just had to blow my nose from time to time. I started walking more (being that congested makes it hard to breath) and taking my vitamins. All in all feeling better despite the various stresses of potty training, paying taxes, and work stuff.
Yesterday, I was feeling great. It was a beautiful day and so I was intent on drinking more water to help with my increasing health. I have a huge cup at work that is good for holding large amounts of water plus it has a lid and a straw. The down side to the straw is that I don’t think it cleans very well… even (or especially) in the dish washer.
Around noon yesterday, I started feeling a tickle in my through. By bed time I was back to being congested. Tylenol helped (I don’t take ibuprofen because it gives me acid re-flux) but here I am at work with aching muscles in my upper back and some growing congestion once again. Thankfully the evil cough isn’t back yet (knock on wood).
I’m not saying that it was the cup at fault for sure, but just to be on the safe side that cup is now in the trash. It
is only Wednesday. The Mrs. leaves bright and early tomorrow morning for what will hopefully be an awesome quilting retreat.
I can do this. I just need to ignore it until Sunday.
