On a rainy Monday of a three day weekend, my oldest child turned nine. It was prefaced by two days worth of visiting with grandparents and the dreary morning was brightened by a phone call from yet a third set of grandparents.
We took it easy this year by granting the simple wishes of a boy preparing to enter the fourth grade. McDonalds for lunch. Mommy and Daddy sat down for a couple hours of Mario Kart with him while his little sister napped. A dinner of hotdogs at the coffee table while watching a Pokemon movie on Netflix. We closed out the night with a three person game of Munchkin while watching the people in ponchos at the fireworks on TV.
This is the happiest I’ve felt in a while.
