Death and Reincarnation

Phay, a 5th level half-elf rogue, and her friends had gotten themselves a paid position to trail blaze their way through the jungle so that the colonial government can be the first to have discovered the lost city that we happen to have a map for. The reward is the standard, any gold and magic items that happen to belong to anything we might kill, and on top of that some land deeds.

Phay was doing quite well. She ripped the guts out of two pig/bears that were plaguing a native village. She charged in and smacked around some acid drooling bugs. She skewed a number of zombies at the tree of death. All of which she did with her trusty dagger and a whole lot of  sneak attack damage.

Trudging through the jungle worked perfectly fine for Phay. Then while she was going through the catalog, trying to figure out which shiny new wand she wanted to purchase with her hard-gotten gold, the party was ambushed by assassins. We aren’t the only ones who want to find the lost city.

Things started out bad for Phay as she was hit initially by a good deal of sneak attack damage and some paralyzing poison. She recovered though and was doing quite well, helping out her allies. In the end though, as the assassins were fleeing the killing blow came from the Constitution draining poison. She was unconscious but stable until her hit points started fading as her constitution dropped. With the Druid also unconscious there wasn’t much to be done. RIP Phay.

BUT in a magic world, death is never the end and Phay happened to have enough gold on her dead body to pay for a reincarnate spell. A roll of the dice and the hyper-agile half-elf returned to life as a slightly less agile but slightly tougher dwarf. It is going to take Phay a little bit to get used to her new body.

The tricky bit is that some racial abilities are physical and some racial abilities are culture. So Phay gets to keep her knowledge of how to use the elven curved blade but she doesn’t acquire the dwarven skill at avoiding attacks from giants. I’m using HeroLab for my characters sheet and fortunately that is pretty flexible. Oddly the biggest problem I had was with her default ability to speak dwarvish. It will just be simpler if I learn it the next time I level.

So here is the newly reincarnated version of Phay without her negative levels which she’ll need to get removed sooner rather than later. Hello new Phay.
